The Ohio State Racing Commission (OSRC) was created in 1933 after the General Assembly approved pari-mutuel wagering on horse racing.

The OSRC employs 12 full and part-time people. Six work at the Columbus headquarters, while others, including judges, stewards and investigators work at Ohio's seven commercial racetracks and at county fairs when wagering is conducted.

OSRC members meet monthly in Columbus to conduct business, approve racing dates, decide matters of racing importance and mete out penalties to licensees found in violation of racing rules and laws.
